Project
After joining the Seattle Documentary Association’s steering committee doing communications in 2016, Elliat became the Board President from 2017-2018, building up a new generation of a board of directors. A goal that was achieved within the rebuilding of the board, programming curation and redoing the organization’s mission was the refocus on equity, specifically in regards to race and ethnicity.
In 2019, Elliat became the first Executive Director of the organization, relaunching the professional documentary community gathering DocForest at Icicle Creek Center for the Arts with a land acknowledgement ceremony with the Duwamish Tribe. DocForest featured filmmakers from rural and urban communities throughout the state of Washington, the Washington Film Commissioner, and partnerships with organizations such as Northwest Film Forum and Wa Na Wari, as well as a multilingual and internationally based community.
From 2018-2019, Elliat also founded and produced a series of shorts titled SeaDoc Portraits, reflecting the local documentary filmmaking community through individual portraits. Elliat also curated the Works in Progress for Seattle Documentary Association throughout 2019 and early 2020.
Elliat transitioned out as Executive Director in October 2020, while launching and managing a Cohort program for documentary filmmakers.
